Gaming Laptops Goes Mini-Me (Dell Intros Alienware M11x – The World’s First Gaming Netbook)
While Dell’s introduction of the world’s first gaming netbook at the recent CES or Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas wasn’t necessarily the ultimate show stopper, the Alienware M11x did turn a lot of heads, especially among the gaming crowd. Having a small compact four pound gaming netbook with an 11 inch display goes against everything associated with gaming laptops, since most gaming notebooks are heavy, large and try to pack everything under the hood that a decent Gaming Desktop PC would possess. Big emphasis on try.
But a gaming netbook goes completely in the other direction, what’s up with that?
Well, actually there’s a lot to notice about this sleek powerful little device mainly because it comes from Alienware, the premier maker of gaming machines on the planet. While many serious gamers swear anything but a PC for gaming is a foolish idea; most would agree if you have to lower yourself to using a gaming laptop – it might as well be one made by Alienware. In other words, Alienware and computer gaming have become synonymous in the hearts and minds of most gamers.
In our ever increasing demand for everything mobile, perhaps a gaming netbook is only the next illogical step! Make it small, make it powerful and they will come. Right?
Not so fast.
The jury is still out on this gaming netbook which will hit the marketplace in February and sell for under $1000. Which is still expensive, considering many quality netbooks are in the $200 to $400 range. Will gamers snap up this portable gamer in order to have their games with them, no matter where they go? Judging by the popularity of such devices as the Nintendo DS, the answer could be a solid yes.
Improving those odds are the rather impressive specs featured on the Alienware M11x which sports a High Definition 11 inch display and a GT335M GPU from NVIDIA. It is capable of playing such popular games as Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 2) at 30 frames-per-second with a 1336 x 768 max resolution. Alienware is claiming even higher frames rates with benchmarks of well over 60 fps, even capable of reaching 90 fps. Battery life (as claimed by Alienware) stands at 3 or 4 hours for gaming, and up to 6 or 7 hours for general use.
The M11x also sports some other impressive specs for such a small machine: built-in Wi-Fi and webcam, multiple USB ports, HDMI-output, SD card reader and a built-in SIM card reader which will allow users to utilize their cellphone SIM card and have access to Internet services. Also, the M11x has both the NVIDIA GPU and an integrated chipset – you can switch to the less demanding graphics when not gaming to save battery life.
Of course, the M11x has all the styling and features you would expect from an Alienware gaming laptop, like those seen on the powerful M17x and M15x. With jet-black looks and multi-zone LED illumination on the keyboard, alien logo, speakers and so on… the M11x will definitely stand out when comparing netbooks. In our self-absorbed world, looks do count but what’s under the hood will be of most interest to gamers who want a small portable device for their gaming.
Alienware, as of yet, is not giving gamers the full-monty of what’s in this system but full details will come when this gaming netbook is unleashed to the public. But dedicated gamers who must have their gaming available at all times, no matter where they are, probably won’t be disappointed with the Alienware M11x, the world’s first gaming netbook.

Gaming Laptops – 5 Reasons To Put Them On Your Christmas List
One of the major categories of laptop computers is gaming laptops. Usually, these are the laptops that offer high processing performance, superior graphics, brilliant displays and possesses a large hard drive for plenty of storage. In other words, you want a laptop that has a high-end GPU, fast processor, tons of RAM, large 17inch or bigger display, large hard drive and many throw in a Blu-ray optical drive to make sure you’re getting the best viewing enjoyment possible.
You should also know, in the quest to produce the most powerful gaming notebook computer, the ideal machine will now sport multiple graphics cards, dual or even quad processors, multiple hard drives… and as gaming technology has progressed, these fully loaded laptop rigs are just about on par with what you would find on a gaming desktop PC.
Gaming laptops have also been a popular Christmas gift in years past and this year will probably prove no different. These dream machines are on everyone’s list for a number of reasons so here’s why you should consider getting or giving one this year…
1. Price and Variety
As competition in this market heats up, prices have been steadily falling. Once this category was dominated by gaming specialists such as Alienware and Rock, but not anymore, as many of the major computer makers such as Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba… are all entering this niche market. The resulting fall-out has seen most prices drop and a whole variety of options presented to the consumer. There are a lot more quality gaming machines to choose from and you can expect to pay less than in previous years. However, lets not kid ourselves, to buy a fully loaded gaming rig with all the extras can still set you back 4 or 5 grand. Ouch Santa, that hurts!
However, this factor plays into another segment of the buying public, despite the down-turn in the economy there are still those amongst us who only buy the best of everything. The ultimate gift for those who want the very best of everything. The highest price laptop you can buy. Then these buyers will have to go with a gaming laptop as these are usually the most powerful machines on the market; not counting desktop PCs.
2. Supreme Performance
Gamers want and demand the highest performance possible in their machines. Manufacturers are gladly supplying that power by utilizing more and more powerful processors such as the new Intel Core i7 (64-bit x86-64) processors. And decking them out with ever increasingly higher performing Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) and neatly presenting all this power and performance on High Resolution and High Definition Display systems, many incorporating the newer Blu-ray technology. For those who want to receive the latest in tech gadgets and gizmos, then gaming laptops fit the bill perfectly.
3. Portable
Sometimes it’s hard to imagine some of these 10 plus pound monsters as portable but when compared to a gaming desktop PC, a gaming notebook computer can be said to be much more portable. One of the major selling points of gaming laptops is this mobility, you can quickly pick one up and carry it around with you and as these machines are getting sleeker and smaller – they will only become even more portable. Ideal gifts for college students, travelers and your very active teenagers. You can send both of them to their rooms without getting those dirty looks. Some gifts do come with fringe benefits.
4. Windows 7
Windows 7 has just been released and now is an excellent time to upgrade your computer. Unlike all the negative press that Vista received, Windows 7 seems to be getting much better reviews, mainly because Microsoft actually listened to its customers and designed an operating system that satisfies the end-user. Unless you’re Mac fanatic, now would be a good time to purchase that new laptop either for yourself or someone you like, and obtaining the new Windows 7 would just be an added reason to get one this Christmas Season.
5. Fun/Enjoyment Factor
First and foremost, Christmas gifts should be all about fun. If it’s not already written into the constitution, it should be! Mainly because nothing says fun more than a gaming laptop and it will surely please the receiver. And while it will deliver hours and hours of enjoyment throughout the year; always remember, unlike other toys, gaming laptops can be very practical – especially for students. Remember, these machines are powerful computers which have many more beneficial uses than playing computer games. Just try to convince yourself, Junior is destined to do more than kill imaginary aliens for the rest of his life.
If you think for a second, you can probably come up with many more solid reasons to put a gaming laptop on your Christmas list. Your beloved off-spring pestering you for 30 days straight for one, doesn’t really count but it probably does. Just remember the 5 reasons above and you will feel much more comfortable playing Santa this year by giving a gaming laptop.

What Is The Difference Between Netbooks And Laptops?
Lately, one question that keeps constantly popping up with laptop buyers – what is the difference between netbooks and laptops? If you’re buying the latest mobile computer, should you go with a netbook or laptop? What are the major differences and which one should you buy?
First, you have to realize the category of \”netbook\” is a fairly new one. Asustek launched the netbook category when it released its first Eee PC in the fall of 2007. Nebooks have proven so popular with consumers it is now the fastest growing laptop segment.
Netbooks are small in size, usually with screens of 10 inches, but some displays can be slightly smaller or larger. Netbooks will usually run Windows XP or Linux and sell for well under $500. Most have the smaller Intel Atom processor and at least one GB of RAM.
Netbooks usually have multiple USB ports, wireless Internet, Ethernet, webcam, vga port for an external larger monitor, microphone and headphone jacks, card readers and most now come with 160 GB hard drive, but older models will have 30 to 60 GB ones. Expect longer battery life with a netbook and nine hours is not that uncommon.
Sounds like a regular laptop, doesn’t it?
Well, not exactly, because the main difference besides the smaller size, is the lower processing power you will find in a netbook. Most have the smaller Intel Atom processor so expect less performance, especially when you consider most netbooks have much less RAM than a regular laptop. In addition, most netbooks don’t have an optical drive (cd/dvd player), although some newer models do have this feature. The keyboard will usually be smaller so if you have large hands, look for a model with normal sized keys.
Why have Netbooks become so popular?
The main reason could be our constant quest for a handy portable device to go along with our hectic fast-paced well-connected lifestyles. Many people want something larger than a smart phone or PDA to connect with family and friends at all times. For students, a netbook is ideal because of its small size and portability. For travelers, vacationers, hikers, sailors… a netbook can be a very convenient device to bring along to stay connected with the outside world.
The other major reason is Price!
Netbooks are a lot cheaper than laptops, at least for the moment this statement is true. Since regular laptop prices are constantly decreasing, this price difference has grown a lot smaller in recent years. But for the most part, netbooks will be cheaper to buy then laptops.
Should you buy a netbook or laptop?
This question will largely depend upon what tasks you want your new device to perform. If you have computer tasks which require high performance or you want to store large amounts of data, then go with a laptop or PC. If you have tasks which require a large viewing area (display) then go with a laptop; those third quarter company spreadsheets will be very hard to read on a netbook.
However, if you want a small portable device to stay connected with friends and family while you’re traveling or just out around town, then go with a netbook. If you’re a student and want a small compact device for the classroom, then go with a netbook.
Now, to confuse things somewhat, any prudent buyer must be aware that you can have all of the features of a netbook in many ultra-portable laptops currently on the market. For example, you can buy a Sony VAIO 11.1 Inch Laptop with a 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU9600 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive and a Blu-ray Drive. The main difference is price, expect to pay well over two grand for the Sony.
Again, which device you buy will largely depend upon your own computer needs and your budget. A cheap, yet sturdy netbook, may be all you need to get the job done, why waste money by buying features you don’t need and will never use? However, if you require high performance in a small package, then a more powerful ultra-portable laptop may fit the bill in more ways than one. It’s your call?

Gaming Laptops: Four Factors To Check Before Buying
Gaming laptops are becoming more and more popular with the computer buying public. Once a true gamer wouldn’t dream of buying a laptop for gaming, but now that laptop performances have increased a hundred fold since the first laptops came on the market, even some die-hard gamers are switching over to the other side.
Even so, many gamers still favor Desktop PCs for gaming, mainly because they’re cheaper but mostly because PCs are much easier to upgrade. Notebook computers are not very suitable for upgrading so your system can go out of date very quickly.
Regardless, if you’re in the market for a gaming laptop, there seems to be new systems coming on stream almost daily. So you shouldn’t have a problem finding a laptop that will meet your needs, as long as you keep a few factors in mind.
Here are four major features you should check before buying your gaming laptop:
Graphics Card
Since your gaming system will be handling heavy visuals, graphics and 3D video you need a very robust video card that can get the job done. Many recent laptops now sport dual graphics with either SLI technology (NVIDIA) or CrossFire technology (ATI). Regardless, you should check to see if you have at least 512MB of video RAM, many now have 1 Gig of RAM or more. Most gamers go with NVIDIA GeForce 8800M, 9800M and ATI Radeon HD3870 or higher ones as they hit the market.
Some recent laptops now sport 3 GPUs such as the Toshiba Qosimo X305-Q708 which has a couple of GeForce 9800M GTS cards via SLI configuration, plus it also has a GeForce 9400M for quieter operation.
Processor
You need a powerful processor to perform all those applications with ease, we now have dual-core processors in most gaming laptops. Higher end models now sport quad-core processors which will deliver more than enough power to handle most games. You should get at least 2GHz processing speed, and many processors go higher such as the Intel Core2 Extreme X9000 processor which has 2.8GHz. Keep in mind, some systems can be overclocked, such as the Asus W90Vp-X1, at an amazing 3.28GHz.
Display
Another consideration for a gaming laptop is the all important display, native resolution and sound quality. Obviously, you want the best display so check the actual quality of the images on your laptop. Is there any glare? Are the colors brilliant and true? Are the images sharp and clear? Many gamers now go with bigger displays of 17, 18 or even 20 inches and look for a system that gives HD playback. Note if you have 1080p display which will give you true High Definition. Many high end laptops come with WUXGA (Widescreen Ultra eXtended Graphics) 1920×1200 with 16:10 screen aspect ratio.
Sound is also important in gaming so you want the best speakers and sound quality. Many systems are now sporting HD or Blu-ray Drives so this is something to check for if you want superior viewing visuals and sound.
Hard Drive
Since games, videos, music… all take up a lot of space, most gamers go with as large a hard drive as they can afford. At least 200GB of space, and many go for even more up to 1 TB terabyte of space. Solid State Drives are not yet common in gaming laptops but it is something to consider since these can last longer because you have no moving parts like you have in a hard drive. Higher end gaming laptops now have Solid State Drives but cost is still an issue.
Also remember to check the speed of your hard drive, 7200 RPMs is faster than a 5400 RPM system. Since top performance is your ultimate goal, getting the fastest hard drive speed is essential. For this reason many gamers go with a SATA hard drive(s) which gives the best performance.
There are a few other things you might want to check out when buying a gaming laptop. One being style and looks; most of the higher end laptops will have plenty of style and pizzazz. If the style and flash of your rig is important to you, than it is something to consider when buying your system. Perhaps, another less shadow and more important issue is warranty. Does your spectacular looking rig have a good warranty should things go south? The more expensive the rig, the more you should check the warranty, even buying an extended warranty for your brand new gaming laptop. Years of happy worry-free gaming should be your ultimate goal.

The Check Point Certified Security Administrator (CCSA) Certification Will Prove Your Worth
Are you looking for a career in Information Technology? The Check Point Certified Security Administrator (CCSA) certification is a good choice to add to your credentials as a Network Security specialist.
The CCSA has not only become a highly recognized and sought after credential to help you get the job, it verifies your knowledge and improves your practical application skills to help you keep the job.
As a company, Check Point Software Technologies has become the de facto standard among corporate firewalls, security gateways, VPN appliances and software. There are no other security applications that are more widely used in Fortune 500 companies, medical, legal and government organizations.
Whether it is for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, HIPAA, or meeting the requirements for the PCI Data Security Standard, Check Point appliances and software consistently outperform the competition.
Obtaining CCSA certification is vital for network engineers, network security specialists, security administrators and anyone tasked with managing a Check Point device.
While the course outline indicates that no prior experience is required, a firm knowledge of operating systems, servers, network topologies and protocols will ensure your success in this course work.
Most experts will agree that the CompTIA A and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certifications are good starting points, but your choice of other certifications will depend on your career objectives.
During the CCSA training course you’ll learn details about basic networking security including:
In addition you’ll learn about a variety of Check Point products and how they can be used to secure a company’s network, filter email, manage access to Internet content with URL filtering, and tune a network to handle Voice over IP (VoIP).
Common to all Check Point appliances is a powerful software operating system, which enables organizations to perform all aspects of security management via a single, unified console.
If you are already a highly skilled network specialist, or if you already have other industry certifications, you may require a week or two of concentrated study time. Others with basic computer and network skills will need at least 4 weeks to complete the CCSA study course.
Don’t cheat yourself – the exam can be tricky. Take advantage of the practice exams and repeat them until you can pass at least three times before attempting the certification exam.
Once you have passed the CCSA exam don’t expect to be an expert for long; technology changes and constant continuing education is critical. Keep your skills sharp, expand your library, and add other industry certifications to your portfolio.
Not only will you be able to proudly display your CCSA certificate, you’ll have the knowledge and skills to increase your value to your employer, which as you know could potentially increase your salary as you prove your worth time and again.

Are You Considering A Career As A Microsoft Network Administrator?
Computer technology has become an essential part of every industry and sector, whether civic or commercial. The industry continues to expand its capabilities, making the continuous and smooth operation of the Information Technology (IT) department a crucial aspect of any large organization.
As more computer systems run on the Microsoft platform, there is a high and growing demand for Microsoft Network Administrators.
As a Microsoft Network Administrator, you will generally need to deal with both the hardware and software on computer systems – dealing with installations, optimization, and trouble-shooting.
While your annual salary may start in the mid $30,000 range, as you gain experience over time, this can double or even triple in very short order.
Most Network Administrators choose to sub-specialize. This allows one to work in a more technical capacity, and consequently advances you to the next pay level.
The most typical selections are Microsoft Product Specialist and Microsoft Systems Engineer, both of which one can earn industry recognized certificates – Microsoft Certified Professional and Microsoft Certified System Engineer. And the newest generation of certifications include the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) credentials
In the industry today, especially if you are newly entering the field, you should expect to show clients a certificate when they are looking to contract or hire you.
To become a Microsoft Network Administrator, you must first have thorough knowledge of both hardware and software. If you choose to enroll in a program, typically there are no pre-requisites and a high school diploma is not required, so there is definitely the opportunity to start from scratch and work your way up. Some people choose to learn on their own through self-study training courses, books, Internet research, and hands-on personal experience.
Whichever education path you choose, there are some basics you must learn:
1. Microsoft operating systems: Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and any new operating systems that may come out. You must know the older versions in case your client uses it, but stay up to date on the new versions, where you are likely to find the most demand in installations and trouble-shooting.
2. Network cabling. This includes knowing the hardware, the different types of cables out there, and which cables are best suited for the needs of the computer network.
3. Know all about TCP/IP and how to sub-net a network.
4. Network security. Be well acquainted with all the security software out there. Know Microsoft’s built-in security inside out – how to make it work and how to bypass it.
Once you have the basics down, you must learn the intricacies of system architecture.
First, you must learn business analysis, where you must assess an organization’s needs and thereby design a system that will not only meet its basic requirements, but optimize its efficiency and profit making capabilities.
Next, the plan that has been created must be executed; this includes installing new software and hardware, customizing the configuration to the business, maintaining the system’s integrity, updating the system when better solutions come onto the market, diagnose problems that may arise, and resolve those issues in the timeliest manner possible.
All this means that on a daily basis, you must always be prepared. This may include late night hours and weekends, as you must be available to your clients at all times in case of technical problems, which we all know constantly occur.
You must act with calm and patience; you will deal with quite a few frantic people over the phone.
You must always be vigilant, constantly monitoring the systems of all your clients, as the best problem treatment is problem prevention.
In the end, a career as a Microsoft Network Administrator requires a solid educational foundation and a commitment to continuous learning, but it also requires you to bring your \”A-Game\” to the job of helping your employer maintain smooth and profitable operations.

The Big Picture Of Pursuing A Career As A Microsoft Networking Administrator
Pursuing a career as a Microsoft Networking Administrator can be both rewarding and challenging.
There is a lot to learn in preparation for your career in this field, and you must be willing to upgrade those skills every few years in order to stay up-to-date on these ever-changing technologies.
Fortunately, there are many potential paths that you can take that will allow you to successfully become a Microsoft Networking Administrator. No matter which path you choose to follow, however, there are some basic skills that you must have in order to reliably handle your job.
There is no such thing as a typical day for a person working in this field. Every day brings both new challenges and familiar issues. Generally, you will need to ready to handle everyday maintenance tasks such as maintaining the domain accounts (creating new ones, deleting old ones and modifying existing ones) and ensuring the continual operation of your network’s domain controllers along with all of the domain’s member servers and workstations.
Diagnosing connection issues and addressing network security concerns will occupy much of your time. General maintenance of network components is essential to minimizing the impact of potential emergencies and staving off network service interruptions.
In order to handle your day-to-day tasks, you must first obtain the required knowledge. You must understand how Microsoft Windows 2008 Server and Microsoft Active Directory work together to manage a Microsoft network. This knowledge is not obtained easily.
If you learn well via self-study courses, there are a number of programs that may give you the required knowledge. However, many find that those courses lack the first-hand experience that is essential for a Microsoft Networking Administrator to address the unique issues that frequently occur outside of a classroom environment. For those individuals, there are accelerated classes available, which offer the hands-on option.
For a more measured and in-depth study of the necessary Microsoft technologies, a formal curriculum involving courses in Network Essentials, Client Operating Systems, Basic Microsoft Server Operating Systems and Advanced Microsoft Server Operating Systems is ideal.
Pursuing this sort of education will prepare you for the necessary certification exams that you must take in order for you to show your proficiency to potential employers.
There are a number of certifications that you can obtain to show that you are capable of understanding the technologies that you will be using as a Microsoft Networking Administrator.
You should expect to obtain a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification in order to show that you have the skills needed to manage and troubleshoot network environments running Windows operating systems. The MCSA consists of two core exams on networking systems, one core exam on client operating systems and one elective exam.
You should also obtain CompTIA Network certification in order to validate your knowledge of networking principles.
The Network certification will prove your ability to describe the features and functions of networking components and to understand basic network infrastructure.
While certifications are very important to show your proficiency, the importance of a traditional college degree cannot be overlooked. Often, to save time and money, one might be compelled to forgo a traditional college degree in favor of focusing on acquiring the knowledge required to pass the certification exams.
It should be noted, however, that a college degree is still preferred among the vast majority of employers. Having a degree is seen as an indication that you are able to plan for and successfully pursue long-term goals. The degree also indicates a willingness to expand your knowledge into other areas.
For this reason, certifications should ideally be viewed as complementary to your college degree, not a substitute for it.
In conclusion, should you decide to pursue a career as a Microsoft Networking Administrator, you will be met with many challenges. So long as you obtain the required knowledge and learn the appropriate skills, you will be able to overcome these challenges and build a successful lucrative career.

CISSP Advanced Security Certification Can Lead to a Lucrative Career for the Committed Computer Security Professional
When the movie Hackers, starring Angelina Jolie, came out in 1995, people had gotten the idea that being a hacker is cool and clever.
There were certain network attacks along the way that started putting people into the mindset that computer hackers weren’t as cool as people had once thought. The viruses that infiltrated our desktops helped drive the point home that computer security was a very real issue and a very real concern.
Then 9/11 arrived, and cyber terrorism jumped to the front page of our local newspapers. All of a sudden, cyber terrorists were identified as hackers who spend their days and nights trying to crack open corporate and government computer networks to steal information and to cause havoc.
Within months of 9/11, computer security became one of the hottest career choices in Information Technology (IT) departments around the world.
CISSP is the abbreviation of Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and it is one of the more advanced security certifications available to IT professionals.
This is an exam, which forms the premier security certification that is designed or framed and administered by the International Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2.org).
This career field and computer security certification is one of the most extensive course studies provided in the IT field. Certified professionals at this level have the necessary skills and the proficiency to handle any situation that may pose a critical threat to the information systems of corporate or government entities. The holder of a CISSP certification generally provides unbeatable IT leadership capacity, in the formation and execution of enterprise security infrastructure.
The most essential core knowledge of CISSP professionals is the ability to effectively maintain System Access Control and Applications Security.
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning is the next important role of a person who holds this certification.
Beyond the primary areas of education shown above, the CISSP professional is expected to have a solid understanding of Cryptography. If you are unfamiliar with this term, it relates to the security behind the movement of data from one point to another. Cryptography is developing systems that ensure the security of data between two computers, such as with sending and receiving email and when protecting private information within a computer network, such as credit card information of customers. During the Cryptography course work, a significant amount of time will be devoted to the prevention of illegal entry into a computer network and preventing the theft of important data in that network.
Other areas that will be covered in the CISSP course work includes:
This certification is one of the best-known and most-respected computer network security certifications.
Depending on where one might be seeking a job, people who bring a CISSP certification with them can expect to get a minimum starting salary in the range of $70 to $80,000 per year.
As the course work involved with this certification is quite extensive, one should not be surprised to learn that the actual test would take about six hours to complete.
As with any IT certification, one should take advantage of the practice tests to ensure that one will perform well on the real test on certification day. The test itself generally costs in the range of $ $550, so unless you simply have money to burn, one should be sure that he or she is able to pass the real test, before dropping the money to get the actual certification. As with anything in this life, practice makes perfect… And in this case, certification will ensure a good salary from your current or future employers.

Are Netbooks The Perfect Student Laptops?
Netbooks are everywhere, on buses, on trains, on planes… and in the classroom. It seems the little netbook has come out of nowhere to become extremely popular overnight.
But what is a netbook?
Netbooks usually have screens of 10 inches or less, runs Windows or Linux and generally sell for well under $500. As its name indicates, the netbook’s main purpose is to keep its owner conveniently connected to the net – anywhere, anytime.
First introduced by Asustek when it launched the first Eee PC in the fall of 2007. But it was only in the last year when we saw the explosive growth of these so-called mini-laptops. Now we have many computer companies such as HP, Dell, Lenovo… all jumping on this craze for a small portable laptop. So much so, that netbooks now is the fastest growing segment of the laptop industry and is expected to reach 139 million units by 2013.
Why is there a sudden popularity for the small netbook? Perhaps the answer lies mainly in our constant quest for mobility. We want a portable device that will keep us connected to the Internet and yet be small and light enough to be carried around all day. A truly ultra-portable device that keeps us connected with family, friends and the web.
The next question you have to ask: why do netbooks make for great student laptops? If the above reasons aren’t enough, try the following:
Size
Netbooks are small with 10 inch displays or less, which make them ideal for students. Plus, they are usually very lightweight – around 2 or 3 pounds. They are compact enough to tuck into your school bag or backpack, and small enough to carry around all day without developing a hernia.
Portability
As mentioned above because the netbook is so small and compact, it is very portable. A very mobile device that we can use to stay connected to the web and friends. Connectability is one of the main features – you are connected to the web at all times.
Sturdiness
Most netbooks are designed to be sturdy and tough. They can take a few hard knocks and still keep on working. Students are not exactly the most gentle creatures on the planet, so a sturdy tough machine is needed to handle the demands put upon it.
Battery Life
Because of their small size, you will usually get better battery life than with a regular sized laptop. This is important to the student since you may have to go all day without a chance to re-charge the battery. Long lasting battery life makes the netbook the perfect student laptop.
Performance
Although small, these mini-laptops still sports some very impressive specs. Many now come with at least 1 Gig of RAM and Intel Atom processors. There are even some with Solid State Hard Drives which make them more durable and less likely to be damaged. Most use Windows XP – newer models debuting this year with the Nvidia’s Ion platform may have Vista or Windows 7, but still don’t expect the kind of performance you would get from a regular laptop.
Storage
While storage on netbooks is constantly increasing, it is still nowhere near the kind of storage you will find on a regular sized laptop. Usually, most devices have around 30 or 60 Gig hard drives which should be adequate for most student’s needs. Many newer netbooks have 160 Gigs of storage.
Price
Perhaps, the main reason netbooks make the perfect student laptops is the low price. Students are usually on a very limited budget and the low price-tag is a perfect fit. Many perfectly adequate machines are now priced in the $300 to $500 range – while many good ones go for well under $300. Plus, prices are steadily dropping so almost any student can now afford a netbook.
As you can plainly see, the netbook does have many features to make it a perfect student laptop: small size, very portable, excellent connections, very sturdy, long battery life, good performance, adequate storage and most of all, a very affordable price almost any student can take advantage of. Overall, netbooks are well suited for the classroom and the student.

Cheap Gaming Laptops – Where To Find Them?
As a general rule, gaming laptops are not cheap, they are usually the most expensive laptops you can purchase. If you go with a fully-loaded high-end gaming machine from the popular brand-name makers you will likely have to dish out 4 to 6 grand for the top rigs.
However, since all laptop prices have been falling at a steady rate in recent years, if you shop around you can find a half-decent gaming laptop at a reasonable price. Here we’re still talking about $1500 to $2500 for a good quality gaming laptop. Although there are probably cheaper ones to be found if you look in the right places.
Now, the main reason gaming laptops are so expensive is because of the high-end components and high-end specs that’s needed to produce a superior gaming machine. Now, if money is no object, going with these top brand-names could probably be your best bet if you’re playing the name game. Also keep in mind, you don’t always have to buy the really expensive \”flag-ship\” models; going with an entry-level gaming laptop from Alienware or Rock can make them more affordable for the average gamer.
